With this saw, you can easily make holes from one inch to 4 inches in diameter. With this hole saw, your hole will be perfectly round and accurate.

There are dozens of hole saws available in the market today, and choosing the best one is a complicated process. That’s why we’ve shortlisted some of the best hole saw Kits in this guide. From this list, you can choose hole saw set for yourself. We hope you find this Hole Saw Guide helpful.

How We Test

For the testing we will be using this 15-inch craftsman drill press.  We have attached a wheel to the drill press to provide a constant downward force. We were also adjusting the weight that we apply to this wheel based upon the metal’s hardness. Since we’re using a one-inch hole saw, we would be slowing this drill press down as slow as possible to only 250 rpm. Also, we will be using cutting oil later. But since we’re shirking some warm steel, that’s tolerably thin. So we won’t use it during the first test. The first piece of metal we’ll be cutting through is some 3 16 mild steel before his trial begins.

Next, we will drill the pilot hole since hole salts vary tremendously concerning the design of the teeth. There isn’t a specific amount of downward force with the width of teeth and many other factors. That will allow optimal efficiency for all brands, having done quite a bit of preliminary testing applying 10 pounds of weight to the wheel. Which results in about 85 pounds of downward force seems like the right amount. since some hole saws do not design to clear their chips.

So we’ll lift the hole saws once every 15 seconds and blow compressed air onto the workpiece to remove all of the chips. If a hole saw becomes stuck during the testing. We’ll go ahead and release the hole saw bit and will gradually reapply the weight.

The higher the quantity on the pick, the more able it is of scratching something. We were able to scratch the carbide of the ezarc with a number eight pick.

A high-quality carbide should not be marked with a number eight or nine choices. The ezarc hole saw seems to be performing very well cutting through the mild steel as it was just about finished drilling through the steel. So we had to lift and release the bit several times 35 seconds for the ezarc. The ezarc held up reasonably well, but one of the carbide teeth experienced a little bit of damage.

Products Comparison And Buying Guide

Mild Steel Drilling – Time And Cut Quality

Speed

Dwelt carbide saw tied at 23 seconds. the mk morse was third at 24 seconds, Milwaukee dozer 25, and Lenox 29. the quality of the hole, for ezarc, is pretty decent. The total size is just under one inch, and the Irwin was extremely fast. But unfortunately, the quality of the hole doesn’t look outstanding. The size of the hole is about 360 force, too large. The MK Morse hole saw was one second slower than the Erwin. The hole seems a little bit cleaner. The morse was slightly more accurate at the one-inch hole compared to the Irwin at 25 seconds. Milwaukee was speedy, and the quality of the cut was outstanding. The size of the hole left by Milwaukee hole saw is one and three 128’s, just like the Milwaukee.

Quality

The bosch hole saw made a clean cut only one and 128 over an inch-perfect job by the bosch. The bosch and Milwaukee seemed to provide a little bit smoother cut than the Lenox. The lenox did an outstanding job, only over by 164. the quality to finish with the Dewalt looks excellent. The Dewalt is exceptionally accurate. And tct carbide hole saw provided a very nice looking finish. Also, The precision is awe-inspiring, only off by one 128. the generic hole saw kit that we tested was extremely slow. But it did provide a spotless finish 1 and 1-128, and The Diablo was a very tight hole saw.

But the quality of the cut isn’t quite as good as some of the other brands. Also, The size of the hole is off a little bit at 1 and 7 128. the smoothness of the cut with the Dewalt is probably the best yet one and three 128. unfortunately, the Milwaukee impact ready saw didn’t quite make it. But it was very close. The quality of the finish with the Dewalt carbide hole saw is the best yet. But it’s also highly accurate Klein provided an extremely smooth cut, only 1 128 over an inch in the next test.

Steel 1095 Driliing Hole Time

We’ll see how each of these hole saws performs on some tough 1095 knife blade steel. So, we’ll be adding ten more pounds for a total of 20 pounds to the wheel since this is a much more complex form of steel. Also, we’ll  be using cutting oil testing the ezarc first, since we are using cutting oil. We’ll review each brand that displaces the chips. We only use compressed air if the hole saw appears to stop making progress.

Ezarc

The ezarc hole saw did a terrific job managing the chips, and we didn’t have to use compressed air. The cutting oil and the extra downward pressure allowed it to saw through the much harder steel in only 36 seconds.

Irwin

The Irwin saw did a great job managing the metal shavings cutting through the steel in only 30 seconds.

Mk Morse

The carbide saw tips gave the morse a massive advantage in cutting. Through the steel in an awe-inspiring 24 second time to take the lead from Irwin. It also did the best yet at dispersing the metal chips.

Milwaukee dozer

The Milwaukee dozer hole saw did a pretty good job managing the chips but not quite as well as the morse 38 seconds for the Milwaukee.

Bosch

Bosch saw did a great job displacing the metal chips and delivered a 29-second finish only five seconds slower than the morse.

Lenox

The Lenox didn’t seem to disperse metal chips and some other brands a minute and 17 seconds for the Lenox.

Dewalt 2x

The Dewalt 2x is a terrific hole saw, but it doesn’t displace the chips as efficiently as some other brands 140 seconds for the Dewalt.

Tct

The tct carbide hole saw did an excellent job substituting the chips and delivered a perfect time at 35 seconds.

Craftsman

Unfortunately, the Craftsman brand hole saw did a poor job displacing. the chips and was unable to cut through the steel.

Diablo

Just like the ezarc and the tct the Diablo has big teeth and has to cut a wider path the bi-metal hole saws. Thirty-four seconds for the Diablo.

Dewalt impact

The Dewalt impact struggled with a displacement of the chips and needed compressed air assistance several times, and 44 seconds.

Dewalt shockwave

The Dewalt shockwave 12 carbides did a terrific job displacing. Also, the chips, even though they had to cut a wider path than the bi-metal hole saws, managed an awe-inspiring 25-second finish.

Klein

Just like the Dewalt carbide, the Klein did a great job displacing the chips. However, it wasn’t quite as fast as the Dewalt at 38 seconds.

Result

The morse hole saw came out on top with an imposing 24-second finish Dewalt carbide 25, bosch 29, Irwin 30, and the Diablo came in fifth.

AR-500 Armor Plating Test

we typically wouldn’t use a hole saw kit to drill through some ar-500 armor plating. But this is a showdown article, so up next, we’re going to see how each one of these brands performs.

Ezarc

The ezarc hole saw did a terrific job, even with the frequent application of cutting oil, the ar 500 seems to have work-hardened, and the ezarc couldn’t cut through the steel. The ezarc saw did a great job, almost drilling through the armor plating. Four of the five carbide teeth had mild to moderate damage.

Irwin

The Irwin saw did an excellent job for about 10 seconds before it stopped making progress. The armored plating was just too much for Irwin. While everyone did a great job cutting on the mild and the medium steel, it’s just not up to the task. The ar-500 on Irwin’s teeth is pretty dull.

Mk Morse

The Mk Morse did a good job. It just didn’t want to give up but ran out of steam after about a minute. The morse hole saw did an outstanding job but did not cut as deep as the ezarc. Most of the teeth in the morse are still in great shape.

Milwaukee dozer

The Milwaukee dozer saw started strong. But stopped making progress after about 10 seconds, the Milwaukee and the Irwin are both bi-metal saws, and as you can see, the Milwaukee went a little bit deeper. The teeth on the Milwaukee dozer have experienced some doling. But they’re still in good shape than the Irwin.

Bosch

Just like Milwaukee, the bosch hole saw seemed to last around 10 seconds before it stopped making progress. The teeth on the bosch seem to be in the same condition as the Milwaukee of the three bi-metal hole saws. The bosch did the best yet, beating out Milwaukee as well as the Irwin.

Lenox

The Lenox seemed to stop making progress after about five seconds. Lenox saw and the Irwin did about the same all of the teeth on the Lenox experience significant dulling.

Dewalt 2x

Unlike the other bi-metal hole saws, the Dewalt 2x continued to cut after 10 seconds and didn’t seem to slow down until around 25 seconds. The dwelt 2x actually did an excellent job for a bi-metal doing just as well as the morse. The Dewalt 2x teeth seemed to be in better condition than the other bi-metal hole saws.

Tct

The tct hole saw got off to a great start and kept cutting well over a minute before it stopped making progress tct has done the best yet. Just about making it through the steel, four of the five teeth remained in excellent condition.

Diabolo

The diabolo just shredded the armor plating for nearly two minutes before it stopped making progress through the armor plating; wow, Diablo hole saw did the best yet definitely doing better than the tct around two-thirds of the teeth diabolo are still in perfect condition.

Dewalt carbide

The Dewalt carbide started very strong but gradually lost momentum throughout the test. The dual-hole saw kit was doing a terrific job, and unfortunately, all four of the carbide teeth broke, cutting through mild and medium steel. The Dewalt seemed like the best hole saw, but unfortunately, all four teeth experienced significant damage with the armor plating.

Klein

Just like the Dewalt carbide, the Klein saw started very strong and gradually lost momentum. The Klein didn’t quite make it through. But it did better than the Dewalt. All four teeth on the Klein experienced some damage.

Conclusion

When it comes to hole saw kit, one thing for sure is you don’t have to pay a lot to get a lot of all three of the brands. We liked the under ten and performed very well, especially the us-made MK Morse set brand with the carbide teeth. It did a fantastic job averaging number one for cutting speed on the first two types of steel we tested. We also like the Milwaukee dozer hole saw kit. It’s a very durable hole saw, perfect for a bi-metal. And finally, Irwin hole saw set, in our opinion, did an outstanding job.
